Breakfast this morning for Sweety and Zeus consisted of two raw turkey necks for Zeus (which he devoured in under 5 minutes), and 3 raw lamb neck steaks for Sweety that I purchased from Growlies.ca when I was there a couple of weekends ago.

8 Steps for Preparing and Feeding a Raw Meaty Bones Breakfast

Pay attention here, this is complicated stuff. Below is a step by step, “how to” on how to feed your dog a raw meaty bones meal. ;)

Step 1: Remove turkey and lamb necks from freezer and place in the sink to defrost.

Step 2: Wash hands. Important!

Step 3: After they’ve thawed, move the turkey and lamb necks from the sink to the refrigerator, repeat step 2 and go to bed.

Step 5: Upon arising, remove turkey and lamb necks from the refrigerator in preparation for feeding.

Step 6: Ensure dogs are adequately hungry – feed them.

Step 7: Supervise meal time and while doing so, enjoy the sight of your dogs crunching, tearing, chewing and enjoying their healthy breakfast!

Step 8: Wash hands.

They’re Workin’ for it!

The benefits for a dog fed a raw meaty bones diet are several. One of the main benefits for raw fed dogs is the teeth and gum cleaning effects that having to rip, tear, chew and crunch their food has, but another benefit is mental stimulation and exercise.

Although it didn’t take Zeus very long to get through a couple of turkey necks this morning, it took Sweety about half an hour to polish off her three lamb neck steaks. She’s nearly 15, so mental stimulation and exercise are even more important for her at this stage of her life.

Variety is the Spice of Life

I feed my dogs once a day and usually never the same foods two days in a row and I fast them once a week too. Click here to see a list of 9 low cost raw foods that you can feed your dog.

I know that was a lot to throw at you in one sitting, but feeding a raw meaty bones diet really isn’t as complicated as it might seem. :)

I *love* the video Jim! It was fun to see Zeus and Sweety crunching up their dindins! I noticed that you are feeding the dogs outside, but what do you do in the winter when it's cold outside?

Karen, in the winter I just pot an old towel or something down and serve their food on it. They usually stay put but if not, I'm lucky to have laminate flooring. =)

I know I've heard of some people feeding in their basement or laundry room.

    Thank goodness for laminate flooring!

I thaw most of my pets' food by moving it directly from freezer to fridge–no sink required! This system has worked just fine for me, but I have to remember to keep in mind that the larger the hunk of meat, the longer it will take to thaw.

Wow, nice job on the video, Jim! Sweety is 15 and she's looking great:) Was that a covered patio area I saw with the stone pavers? I had read in one of your posts that you believe in keeping the feeding process as natural as possible, and wondered if you had an outside space that gave the dogs cover in rain, etc. Oh, wait, I just saw Karen's comment – ha, nevermind:)

Thanks Mary! =) It's amazing what can be done with an iPhone and Animoto eh? LOL

Sometimes I even feed them still frozen stuff. Moreso Zeus than Sweety, she's got much smaller, less powerful jaws and is about 12 years Zeus' senior. Having said that, she still gets through everything, it just takes her three times as long.

Unless I am mistaken, this is the first video I have seen on your blog. Congrats! Whoever recommended that you do this … well, they're just smart people!!!

Ok, now I'm getting a little jealous – so it's that easy with an iphone??? Pretty cool!
