Canadian dog trainer and reality TV host Brad Pattison and his K9 Rescue team left for Haiti this past Tuesday thanks to Kelowna based CANDi International, who helped with arranging flights to Punta Cana.

Today according to Brad’s website, he and his small team of rescuers were enroute to Port au Prince via bus, to provide care for the many injured and dying dogs in the area.

“We have a professional team and we can go down there and make a difference,” he said. “We need to go down there ASAP because many dogs will be trapped, unable to find food or water and they’ll be suffering and perishing slowly.” Source: Kelowna.com

Security is a concern in the impoverished earthquake devastated country says Brad.

“We are walking into a living hell…people are trying to survive, they don’t have anything and we are going down there, with the excitement of going to help, but how that’s received; I don’t know,” he said. Source: Kelowna.com

Other animal welfare organisations, The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) have joined forces and created a new agency called ARCH – Animal Relief Coalition, to bring relief to the animals. They arrived in Haiti today to help the nearly 5 million displaced animals in that country with their main priority initially to provide aid to livestock as Dick Green of the IFAW explains.

“Goats are great producers of milk.  We need to get the milk to the families.  Poultry provides eggs.  We need to get the hens laying eggs again.  Then that helps address human needs.  Feed the goat and the humans gain,” said Dick Green Source: Care2.com

This mission to Haiti has thus far been self-funded by Brad; if you are able to help by donating you can do so at www.bradpattison.com

  • I imagine the human suffering in Haiti is overwhelming. AND I love that there are people in this world, like Mr. Pattison, who think of the animals. If Katrina taught us anything, it's that pets don't suffer any less but are easily/often forgotten. Thank Dog for groups that deep pets in the forefront.
  • I'm glad to know that the animals are being cared for there. I realize that people are the first priority, but it's true what Dick green says. Care for the livestock and the people will have food again.
