The Saturday Bytes July 31, 2010

Welcome back! Find my post today informative? If so, I'd be ecstatic if you'd "Like" it! :)

The Doggy Bytes Saturday Bytes Earlier in the week I was cruising Yahoo Answers. I found a question where the questioner wanted to know if its i ok to shop for raw meaty bones at the grocery store, what would the cost be, and the pros and cons of feeding RMBs.

After posting my answer I re-read some of the other responses. There was one response in particular that got under my skin, so I decided to rebut that woeful response in Thursday’s blog post.

As it turns out, Thursday’s post has become my most read and shared (63 Facebook shares as of this writtng) post to date.

Have a read (warning it’s long), share and leave a comment. Click here to go to the post.

Life With Dogs

If you’ve never visited my friend Neil Brogan’s blog LifeWithDogs.tv, you’re missing out. I swear there must be at least two Neil Brogans, he posts three or four times a day on his blog, every day, and maintains his Life With Dogs Fan Page, as well as the Facebook profile named after is Greyhound Nigel Buggers. All the while Neil manages to come up with most often funny, sometimes sad, but always interesting content.

Being the caretaker of a handsome Pit Bull named Zeus, the video below that Neil posted yesterday of the New Orleans residents that came together to rescue drowning Pit Bull, really touched my heart.

Contests

I met @Dino_Dogan on Twitter earlier this month. His Twitter profile Bio reads like this;

Bio: Blogger, writer, biker, dog trainer, singer/songwriter, Martial Artist. Currently working on Human-Dog Problem Tree; a thesis in human-dog relationship.

Since Dino is a “martial artist”, and I’m a UFC fan, I jokingly asked him if he’d be willing to go head to head, or head to fist with current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, and he replied with something along the lines of “it might be fun.” Clearly Mr. Dogan is “not all there” :)

After watching this video and being amazed with the killer recall of Dino’s GSD Dojo, I shared it on my Facebook profile, and a challenge was born.

As you can see from the screenshot from my profile, Dino’s challenge became competitive very quickly. If your dog has killer recall, and you have or can create a video proving so, then go and check out the nuts and bolts of what Dino has dubbed his Total Recall Masters of the Universe Contest.

There’s another contest happening over at PetNewsAndViews.com, albeit a less competitive one. It’s simple to enter and you still have a few days to enter. Check that contest out here.

Bake Cookies Not Your Dog

I’ll leave you with a video that I found posted on the TakePaws blog, a public service announcement of sorts.

Every summer dogs die from being locked in hot cars, while their owners shop at Walmart. If a car with its windows closed in the summer can bake cookies, what can it do to a poor dog?

    Good call posting the baking cookies video… it drives home the point that a hot car is an oven!
